Overview
The International Institute for Biosensing (IIB) at the University of Minnesota invites proposals for collaborative projects with Seoul National University in the field of biosensing. A total of $100,000 is available for this initiative, intended to reimburse travel and associated costs for up to three or four UMN teams to visit the SNU campus (multiple short-term visits or a single long-term visit) between 9/1/2024 and 8/31/2025.
The following topical areas will receive high priority:
- Functional bio-organic materials for biosensing
- Nanoparticle technologies for biosensing
- Stretchable and wearable biomedical sensors
- Nanoelectronics for biosensing
Eligibility
- Application must be submitted by a full-time faculty member affiliated with the University of Minnesota.
- Projects must support international activities to be performed at SNU – travel support for the faculty, postdoc, or graduate student - aligned with the mission of the IIB and promote collaboration with partners at the SNU campus.
Funding
- Funding will cover travel expenses including airfare, local transportation, lodging, and meals.
- Note: Funding is not intended to support a single short trip or research activities that can be covered by the PI's existing grants.
Proposal Requirements
Applicants must submit the following:
- Project Description (maximum 2 pages): Describe the project, a partner at SNU, detailing the objectives and expected outcomes, and any existing collaboration. Explicitly state why this project cannot be conducted solely at UMN and how it benefits from visits to SNU.
- Letter of Collaboration: Include a letter from a collaborating partner at SNU, indicating their commitment and the nature of the support/facilities they will provide.
- Project Timeline: Detail the duration of the visit and key milestones.
- Budget: An itemized budget outlining expected travel expenses.
Selection Criteria
- Relevance and Impact: Projects that align closely with the biosensing goals of the IIB, align with SNU partner’s focus areas #1-#4, and propose innovative approaches will be prioritized.
- Collaborative Potential: Preference will be given to projects that show potential for long-term collaboration with SNU teams.
